The Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) is a worldwide organization founded in 1920 to develop and promote the knowledge, understanding and practice of dance. Every year over 250,000 students are taught the Academy’s classical ballet syllabi by R.A.D. certified teachers in over 70 countries.
The R.A.D. works actively in the community to give young students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds the opportunity to share in the enjoyment of dance. R.A.D. trained teachers provide the best training in classical ballet for children and young people.
The R.A.D. considers professional training of young children in classical ballet to be vitally important. The Academy’s syllabi have been devised with great care to enable a child to progress though their dance training in planned stages, demanding no more of a young body than it can cope with.
The R.A.D. provides three syllabi in Classical Ballet. There are two examination syllabi, known as Graded Examinations in Dance and Vocational Graded Examinations in Dance. There is also a non-assessed syllbus known as Presentation classes. All are designed to recognise the progress and achievements of children and young people.
